Looking for a healthy, flavorful diet? The “Mediterranean Diet” is inspired by the cuisine of countries along the Mediterranean Sea. It’s low in saturated fat but includes heart-healthy fats like olive oil, incorporates lots of fruits and vegetables, and focuses on whole foods. Here are the basics:

Daily: Fresh produce, whole grains, beans, nuts, and olive oil

Twice a week: Fish, poultry, and/or dairy products (including eggs)

Sparingly: Red meat

A dinner might include:

  • 2-3 oz. baked salmon or chicken
  • Large green salad with tomatoes, sunflower seeds, and olives
  • 1 slice of whole-grain bread, dipped in olive oil
